The first half of Jayne's and my Road Tour of North America! ... it was about 12 minutes long in it's original form, looped so it seemed to carry on for ever, and was designed to be seen projected on the wall of an Art Gallery..
First exhibitied in the ARTEL exibitiion 'FACE IT' in 2002 ( artel.org.uk/exhibitions/face-it-2002/ ) at the Otter Gallery, University College Chichester.
Inspired by American movies where the 'road trip' is metaphoric for a search for a new life, the road being a symbol for freedom, the car a mini-environment from which one watches the world go by and chooses where to stop, the driver in control of his/her destiny. This ironic take on the genre looped for ever into an all-american dream lost in West Sussex!
soundtrack - Siouxie and the Banshees 'The Passanger' (originally written by Iggy Pop / Gardner) from the album 'Through the Looking Glass' , one of the greatest road tracks ever!
