The mascarados, also know as curucucus wear masks of the shape of animals, such as ox or panther, as well as extravagant clothes. They go horses ridding or even on foot playing on the streets of Pirenópolis. During the festival, their first appearance is on Holy Spirit Saturday, at midday, and during the Cavalhadas break, making people laugh. The Mascarados are the symbol of freedom and beauty of Pirenópolis folk.
