Discussing the IKMemergent project, Mike Powell highlights the potential impact of Open Access and Open Data on knowledge management and creation.
At the IMWG workshop in Antwerp, he highlights existing problems with knowledge duplication and waste and how this could be reduced as new means of managing open sources emerge. However, he warns that while open development offers the potential for broader equity in knowledge production and use, it needs to be combined with holistic reviews of how development assistance is implemented to ensure that information is transferred both to the head offices and to the people on the ground.
