With whaling banned in South-Africa in the late seventies, tourism flocked to the once quiet West Coast, but a dark shadow of joblessness, drug abuse and sexual tension emerged, slowly disintegrating the heritage and livelihood of the cape rural communities.
Walvis (2011-2012) investigates the torment of one man, Andries Somers who was a marginalised fisherman and how he came to be the enigmatic mythical figure (Antjie Somers) that still haunts the West Coast today.
