A client rings you, asks you for a movie trailer… for a book!
Problems to solve: How do we fill 3 minutes with no footage to start with? What do the characters look like? Are they doing things we can replicate in the real world? It's a fantasy/Fiction - will our representation on screen match what the author had in mind? Whats the story we're conveying - I haven't read the (unreleased) book, yet need to show what the book is like!
This was a great fun job to solve - I decided to do it with sillouhettes, allowing the viewer to 'fill the blanks'. With the hand of Rob MacDermid on animation, this piece really came out well, with Random House (the publisher) saying it was the best book trailer they've ever had.
