At the "borders," under the media's radar, and largely outside of the academy, there is a growing global performance movement-- taking performance out of the theatre and into urban centers, towns and villages the world over to promote human growth and development, to build community, to change the world. At the bi-annual Performing the World (PTW) conference (performingtheworld.org) activists, artists, educators, psychologists, physicians, therapists, business professionals, youth workers, social entrepreneurs, community organizers and other helping professionals gather to showcase innovative practice and scholarship and provide a rich context for learning and performing together.
