Introduction to Vlaamse Opera's new production of Die Zauberflöte, containing backstage footage and interviews with director David Hermann, set & costume designer Christoph Hetzer and conductor Tomas Netopil.
In the most frequently performed opera in the world we see two opposing realms: that of light and the land, and that of the dark underwater world. The up-and-coming German director David Hermann presents a raw version of an opera everyone thinks they know. The fairytale, which is anything but light-hearted, is translated into a contemporary reading of a world out of balance. A stark contrast to Mozart’s enchanting music.
From 12 Dec in Antwerp, from 10 Jan in Ghent
