Testing GH1 workflow in Premiere CS3. I have dropped 720p60 and 1080p24 sequence in Premiere CS3 1080p24 timeline Project. Every scenes with slow motion in it is 720p60 otherwise its 1080p24.

    Awesome!

How's Neoscene working out for you?

I just bought Neo for 1080/24; however no GH1 received yet due to PannyD retards!

Are you saving your files out to AVCHD codec?
  • Roland Cadieux plus 2 years ago
Thanks PappasArts! I also bought Neo 2 or 3 weeks before receiving my GH1 just to try it out with some .m2ts files.
Work perfect for removing pulldown with 1080p24 files but also for converting those 720p60 files to .avi for Premiere CS3.

Hope you will receive your GH1 soon.

very impressive slomo ! i like a lot how the colors pop too ; is it corrected in premiere or straight from your cam settings ?
  • Roland Cadieux plus 2 years ago
    Thanks Regis,

No CC, straight from the cam.

My grandma always said: the problem is not in the guitar, but in the one who plays it... Roland, you're definitely a great DP. Great job as usual.

Thanks Brian! Grandma are always right! :) really appreciate your comment.

    Another great video!

I'd like to know what project settings you're using in PPro CS3. Is it a custom setting? More specifically, what editing mode are you using, Desktop? What about for video rendering, what File Format and Compressor are you using?

I'm glad to see that Neoscene is working so well with Premiere CS3. Are you on PC or Mac?

    Thanks for the help!
  • Roland Cadieux plus 2 years ago
    Thanks Renaud,

For this project I used preset: HDV 1080p24.
Video rendering, Format-video codec, QuickTime H.264,
  • Renaud Duval 2 years ago
    Thanks Roland,

Is there a particular reason why you chose a 1440x1080 format to edit the footage instead of the native 1920x1080 or 1280x720 that the GH1 shoots in? And are you working on Mac or PC?

    Thanks!
  • Roland Cadieux plus 2 years ago
No particular reason, to tell you the truth , I didn't notice it was 1440... :) Lately I've been using HDV 720p24 most of the time.

    I'm on PC.
  • Renaud Duval 2 years ago
Well the footage looks great, and that's what counts! Keep uploading those great images; people like me still waiting for their GH1 to arrive love to see what the camera is capable of!

    Bonsoir Roland,

Enfin...

    Si ce n'est pas trop de demander, encore une fois répondre à ton public;

    Canon EOS 5D Mark II;
    vincentlaforet.com/

    Sony HDR-FX7;

    Canon T1I

    ou autres suggestion ?

    Encore Merci beaucoup.

    Jean.
  • Roland Cadieux plus 2 years ago
    Merci Jean!

    Merci
  • Roland Cadieux plus 2 years ago
    Bonsoir Jean,

"Does the GH1 have a maximum AVCHD video clip length?
Yes and no. GH1 cameras sold in EU countries are limited to a maximum AVCHD video clip recording length of 30 minutes. GH1 cameras sold everywhere else are limited only by the SDHC memory card capacity; e.g.: can record for hours at a time on AC power or until the battery goes dead.
The Gh1's MJPEG recordings are limited to 2GB (see p.107 in the GH1 user manual)."

    Hi Roland,
Really great video ! Amazing results and beautiful scenes.

Do you think this camera is better than Nikon D90 for photography ? (I saw you did used both)

    Thanks!
  • Roland Cadieux plus 2 years ago
    Thanks Hardcuore!

I don't think the GH1 is better than the D90 for photography but for me its good enough :) you can found a lot of nice GH1 pics on flickr.
  • Hardcuore plus 2 years ago
    Great Roland !

I really wanna buy GH1, but Panasonic didn't delivery in sellers. Do you know where can I found ?
    thanks again !

  • Roland Cadieux plus 2 years ago
    Salut Mario!

what do you prefer the d90 or the gh1. I prefer the gh1 much better because of its better compression and variable frame rates (plus the images are incredibly sharper than the d90). Is there a microphone input with manual audio control on the gh1. This may sound stupid but I know you can control aperture on the d90 and gh1 but can you control shutter speed and iso.
  • Roland Cadieux plus 2 years ago
I definitely prefer the GH1, There's a jack for a microphone. In movie mode you can fully control aperture, shutter speed and ISO.
  • Steve 1 year ago
wow I didnt know you had full manual control like that...DAYM....
  •
  • Hi Roland. I am interested in shallow depth of field, for which you need Canon or Nikon lenses. But from what I gather if you use Nikon or Canon lenses with the GH1 you lose the auto focus. What else do you lose when using third party lenses? Do you consider the GH1 to be worth it over the D90 even when using third party lenses? If so, why is that? ps: Thank you very much for sharing your videos with us.
  • Roland Cadieux plus 2 years ago
Beside auto focus you keep everything else, full manual control when you use third party lens. I consider the GH1 to be worth it over the D90, I had plenty of fun with the D90 but the GH1 is a lot better for video.
  • Steve 1 year ago
this is an interesting perspective given that you were a D90 owner...I have a hard time accepting people opinion of the D90 compared to the GH1 unless they have used one and to see you have successfully changed platforms makes me think I might consider the same thing...will you have regrets if Nikon comes out with a GH1 killer?
  • Roland Cadieux plus 1 year ago
No Steve I wont have regrets, I will probably sold my GH1 and go for the Nikon :) as a matter of fact I'm thinking to buy a 5DMark2 right now... not 100% sure yet...

Nicely done! This makes me want to get one of these cameras.. in fact, i'm off to the local shop now (yes, they have *one* in stock.. !)

EDIT: Did you slow the 60P footage down even more? It felt that you did.. :)
  • Roland Cadieux plus 2 years ago
Thanks, hope you like your new GH1!

Yes I slow it down more.

Roland, your family is lovely and so is your footage. I have a D90 but I see a GH1 will be in my future down the road a little ways. Regardless of the hardware, the man behind the camera is most in control -- and you da man!

    Thank you Mike! :)

RC, do you find the 720p slomo loses sharpness and starts to look gritty? The 1080p looks much snappier.
  • Roland Cadieux plus 2 years ago
Yes, a little bit, the 1080p is definitely snappier.

Bonjour Roland!

great visual Roland really love what you have done with this , by the way , what software are you using to slow down the footage and would it not look as good if you did it with 720p, any recommendations in the workflow to slow down footage would be great.....keep up the great work....
