Can you elaborate on your workflow? How do transcode to an editable codec?

The h.264 video files were ripped from the card.

    Opened in MPEG Streamclip
    squared5.com/

    - Export to Quicktime (Within MPEG Streamclip)
    - Compression set to Apple ProRes 422
    - Unchecked Interlaced Scaling
    - Finally Click Make Movie

Once it's done you have much larger source files that play very nicely with Final Cut Studio 2.

I have also heard of people converting to the XDCAM Codec. I haven't tried it myself but people say you get smaller file sizes and FCP compatibility
