A site analysis study forming part of the QUB architecture thesis study for 2012/2013. This study is examining Ireland's largest inland waterway, the River Shannon. During the Summer months this waterway is popular with with holidaymakers taking week long cruises; however, by taking a barge out in December we had the canal to ourselves.
The film deals with the explicit logistics of sailing a boat along the canal as well as the implicit themes of rain, water, wake and waves and the inter-relationships between these.
A surprising feature from our trip was discovering that the boat company also kept a farm and barge building operation at their site. As such these are also documented as part of the study.
