Pingston is a fabled river of the Interior BC, made famous by its picture perfect deep canyon setting and hundreds of sweet boofs. However, due to a Run of the River Hydro project, optimal flows are only a few days at the end of our high water season, typically late july. Before 2003, when the hydro project started, this river was famous for its continous grade IV-V drops and boulder gardens. Now if you want to get on the Pingston, week long stake outs are mandatory as the flow windows are small.
Local kayakers have pushed the runnable sections to include the Upper (8kms of gnarly V+) and the Lower ( class V+-VI with Huge drops and slides). Both sections are in deep canyons and nearly impossible to scout without dropping in.
This video is a scaled down tour of the Middle section featuring most of the drops in the canyon but is by no means a video guide and as always, use your own judgement when putting on any creek.
