The Inspiring Life & Legacy of Dr. Laurence C. Jones
Written & Directed by Scott Magie
Music by The Cotton Blossom Singers of The Piney Woods School
In the fall of 1909, a young man named Laurence Jones stepped off the train in Braxton & walked into the piney woods of rural Mississippi carrying only a few clean shirts, a Bible, a couple textbooks, his diploma, and $1.65.
With little more than a dream and a simple faith in following God’s call, he started the Piney Woods Country Life School to educate the sons & daughters of impoverished sharecroppers. Against all odds – including racism, tornadoes, financial woes, and an attempted lynching – he succeeded.
Now, exactly 100 years later, his inspiring story & the enduring legacy it created will finally be celebrated on film.
