The Electronic Fetal Monitoring Simulation is a joint project with Washington Hospital Center's OB/GYN Dept and SiTEL. As the game designer, my responsibilities include meeting with a team of subject matter experts (one physician, nurse, and midwife) to develop the core game mechanics in order assess a user in fetal strip tracing.
The player is presented with a pregnant mother with an obstetric emergency. It is their job to use the fetal tracings and information gained from interviewing the patient to determine the patient's condition and treat them accordingly.
The full game encompasses 4 sessions over an 8 hour birth starting in Triage and ending with delivery in the OR. This project is currently involved in an AHRQ (Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality) Grant and is planned to be developed into a full training package that will be used throughout the MedStar Health online education system and be marketed to the public.
