On Monday 3rd December 2012 Belfast City Council decided to limit the flying of the UK national flag, the Union Jack, from the city hall to 17 days per year. This was a compromise between the pro-Irish Republicans and Nationalists on the one side, and the pro-British Loyalists and Unionists on the other. The pro-Irish want equal prominence given to the Irish tricolour and the Union Jack or no flags at all, the pro-British want the Union Jack alone to be flown every day of the year. There have been violent and peaceful demonstrations against the decision and the cross community Alliance party who the pro-British parties accuse of being anti-Union Jack.
The film begins at Belfast City Hall, where there is a continental Christmas market in full swing - most people don't care about the flag issue. The film then switches to a peaceful protest on the Albertbridge Road about a kilometer away. The protestors are confronted by a solid line of police landrovers, they sing a Loyalist song.
