In Nepal, Heifer International is launching a $23.8 million project that will focus on food security, nutrition and self-sufficiency in milk and goat meat, ensuring resource-poor farmers will have access to the national food market. By 2016 Heifer aims to reduce live goat imports in Nepal by 30% and milk by 10% by involving 138,000 farmers in 28 districts in value chain enterprises of goat and dairy for increasing their family income and nutrition level.
