The Extra Room exists in an imaginary world where mind-reading technologies are in common use. As the mind becomes transparent in this world and no thoughts or beliefs can be private, a new necessity of protective self discipline emerges. Utilising effects of sensory deprivation and methods used by the military to break someone down, the room enables subjects to adjust their thinking and beliefs. The Extra Room, a reversed disciplinary architecture, is built into the basement of a multi story building where it is shared by the house’s inhabitants.
