Here a quick look to my workflow:

1) converted mov into cineform HD avi file
2) premiere cuts and import prproj into aftereffects
3) after effects time warp 100% to 10% speed (with alot of keyframes on pixel motion accuracy to avoid artifacts)
4) rendering in TGA sequence (to speed up next steps)
5) Timeremapping to do final adjustments on clip speed
6) directional blur applied on tga sequence to simulate motion blur
7) colorcorrection (with curves, levels, blur, masks, transfer mods ecc)
8) light effects to hide cuts
9) text with motion blur
10) import aep in premiere, rendering the work area
11) sound design (thx to Vangelis for "la petite fille de la mer")
12) final export

Hello. Being a Mac person .... Is "Advanced Slow Motion" a stand alone application ?

    Thank you.

You see, you've included all technical details into the video itself, but didn't include tutorial on slowmo there! That's why you're getting these comments. Shame on you! :)

    Awesome vid and child btw.

VERY nice. I'm in the market for a new SLR and this made me consider the Mark II. Price is a little high for my pocket book...was considering the Nikon D90?
  • francesco rivolta 2 years ago
    I think is good too...

I have the 5dmk2 and my advice, skip all of them, and buy the Red Scarlet in a few months. 3k with real slow motion, (120 fps?). A bit more expensive but worth saving for. One of the reasons the 5dmk2 footage you see on Vimeo is so great looking is that it's 1080p compressed down to size to fit vimeo. It sharpens the look contrasts the colors beautifully and basically creates a much better look. In my opinion, when viewed at full 1080p it doesn't look near as good. That's why Red looks better, compressed and scaled down to 1080p from 4k. It creates that Wow factor. Save up for the 3k, and convert it to 1080p, and you will have what you are looking for. Otherwise the Canon is a bit of a let down at 1080p and no slow mo.
  • Benjamin Briceno 1 year ago
Yes but the 3k scarlet you speak of has no where near the sensor size... You commented this 6 months ago, you are probably still a 5dmk2 user, haha.

    Red Scarlett is a mith...
I mean is even to expensive for prosumers, consumers which thinks are pro...

If you like the D90 stuff you see on Vimeo, can live without manual exposure & ISO control and stair stepping, and have lenses with aperture rings, go for it.

amazing, Im just about to buy some new DSLRs for my students, would you recommend the Canon over Nikons efforts? I could really to with siding on one camp... I want to get 25 lower spec bodies, and a couple of higher spe ones...

I tried only the 5D mark II...You'd try to read some dedicated forum...

great video... what do you mean by "alot of keyframes on pixel motion accuracy"? how do you actually achieve that in after effect? I don't see any accuracy setting in the timewrap effect.

Nice! Amazed you could get such a crisp image with all of the time adjustments with pixel motion. I always get lots of artifacts with motion filled scenes especially. What Timewarp properties did you key frame exactly, and how intensively, if you don't mind me asking...?

    Looks awesome!

That 1/800th of a shutter looks like it was essential in getting those single hairs to be so crisp and to 'float' when you slowed it down.

Did you plan on using that fast shutter going in so you could slow it down in post.... or did you just end up at 800 because it was really bright out and it ended up working??

    Keep it up man!
  • francesco rivolta 2 years ago
Hi benjamin, I planned to use a fast shutter (800 was the best compromise) to have sharp images...capital if you want to slow down. thx!

Cool technique, I noticed some strange stretching on the kids head as he gets further into frame, is it just me imagining things, or is that caused by the rolling shutter?

Dude, please, upload a little tutorial or explaine how to get rid of those artifacts after pixel motion is done? I have slo mo video on my page, but I used 7d with 60p.. slowed down to 300%-500% in after effects, but artifacts appear really often.

Only problem is the frame banding, you can see the head stretch on the baby. Not going to go away until the 50/60 software update. Cool concept though, I shot one of my kids with an 85mm prime at 1.2 almost the same style.
    Keep shooting.
