Kate Banazi was born in London. Heavily influenced by her parents, both typographers, designers and keen makers of things, she studied menswear fashion design at Central St Martins, before moving into silkscreen printing and illustration. Kate moved to Sydney in 2006 with her husband and young son before signing with the Jacky Winter Group and setting up her own studio.

Alongside commercial jobs and private commissions, she especially enjoys collaborations with others outside her field and is currently working with the research of a microbiologist. Fascinated by the sciences and space travel, she often uses reference to these subjects in her personal pieces and will sneak them in wherever she can in her commissioned work.

Her background in fashion and textiles is often referenced with strong use of colour and bold graphic imagery and led to her most recent collaborations with furniture designers Koskela and fashion designer Dion Lee.

Renew Newcastle presents Creative Talks, a series of breakfast lectures by people who have made a living from their creativity. Taking place on the first Friday morning of the month for three months (beginning September 2012) a well-regarded creative will be invited to speak for 20 minutes about the lessons they have learned growing their art into a commercial success. This is followed by an audience Q&A and the opportunity to mingle with local creatives from a wide range of backgrounds. Attendance is free and breakfast is provided. Meet, greet and eat at Creative Talks.
