The Good, the Bad and the Ugly: Using subjective information to support better routing in OpenStreetMap
5 months ago
A proposal made by Peter Miller, CEO of ITO World at the 2009 stateofthemap.org conference for a new partner project for OpenStreetMap to allow users to rate parts of the transport network from their personal perspectives to support better routing for others in future.
The talk first highlights the diversity of groups who may be looking for routing guidance and then the great variety of roads, paths, steps and barriers that they may be asked to use.
It compares the output of various current OSM routing engines based on standard OpenStreetMap data and suggests how additional information would allow better routing in future.
ITO World hope to support this project with funding from ideasintransit.org
This version of the talk was recorded after the event. A video of the talk itself will be available from the stateofthemap website in due course.
