On 14th December 2012, a group pf 72 people went up the Gordon River to celebrate 30 years since the blockade to save the Franklin river from being dammed. The trip was to celebrate the role of the Up River people who maintained camps for over seven months while the Federal government of Australia fought the State government and the Hydroelectric Commission to the bitter end to have the area protected and world heritage status confirmed.
Considered one of the most important environmental wins and a template for non violent protest for a generation of 'greenies', the Franklin campaign and the efforts of the Up River protestors is being told through song and a book to be published early 2013.
