Sonic Youth finishing their July 3, 2009 hometown gig with the epic coalescent crunch of "Death Valley '69", a quarter-century-old classic from the band's 1985 album, Bad Moon Rising. The original version of the song featured Lydia Lunch as a co-vocalist, and together all the exceptional elements to this tune made it an inspiring soundtrack to the band's first-ever (I think) music video, which featured Thurston & Kim and co. in a marvelously mischievous but little-aired, gore-drenched, Manson murder melodrama from the early days of music television.

Got to greet the ever-affable & eternally youthful Thurston Moore both before the show & at the party thereafter. These guys remain my forever favorite New York City band...happy 4th of July weekend, indeed! MANY thanks to Yoshi Saito & Diego Cortez for facilitating this wonderful night out!
