Overlove/Underpass was created in August 2012 after an invitation from Chashama to create a work for this pedestrian passageway in mid-town. Our goal was to bring energy and wonder to the understated beauty of this architectural thoroughfare. I used improvisational structures created with the dancers to play with the unique features of the space. Dancers of all ages oversaw the pulse of daily life while improvising in ways that inscribed the space with kinetic design . This new group work included twelve dancers and enveloped three duets from Catherine Gallant/DANCE’s meditation on romantic love, An Absurd Vice. Live music was by the Open Music Ensemble.
