63. Scenes from Mols & Djursland
Tuesday and Wednesday- July 14th / 15th 2009, I managed to shoot 7 locations in the Mols / Djursland region near Århus, Denmark. The weather was very hot but perfect for filming.

Locations:

1. View from Stabelhøje (burial mounds).
2. Poskær stenhus (burial mound).
3. Stenhuset dysse (burial mound).
4. View from Trehøje (burial mounds).
5. Stendysse near Korupsøgård (Tåstrup plantation burial mound).
6. Thorsager rundkirke (Round Church in Thorsager build around 1200).
7. Skaføgård (Manor house build 1580-82).

Burial mounds (aka. passage graves) are from about 3.500 BC. Approx. 40.000 were build in Denmark but only about 500 are left. In the 16th and 17th Century, people used the stones when building roads.

I enjoyed the tour. It looks like the slower you move the camera when panning sideways the better it looks, not near as jerky the slower you went. The up and down panning looked very good. Very nice video !
  • [ PIXEL VIKING ] plus 5 months ago
Thanks, I agree, the slow pans look the best. The tripod / fluid head is new. I used to only have a small photography tripod, so I'm still learning :)

Flot film!

    Hej

Lovely stuff! Good to know there is more to Denmark than Billund.
  • [ PIXEL VIKING ] plus 5 months ago
:) Yes, if Billund is the only place you've seen so far, then definitely yes... Legoland is nice, though. It's been a while, since I was there the last time :) My brother has a new summer house there now (Lalandia Billund / Billund Resort), so, there might be a video from there within the next year or so :) The new water park has some crazy water slides...

Flot film.

Magic Bullet Looks giver uanede muligheder - opgaven består egentlig i at holde lidt igen.

Very nice, the fluid head tripods are much nicer to use.
I have found though the slower the better.

Well, thank you. I got my camcorder 18 months ago - never used one before that. A tripod and fluid head helps a lot.

Another great movie. I am downloading it now. I put your films onto a data dvd and play in my PS3 on a 42 inch Sony. Looks just great!
Tonight I filmed three of my granddaughters in a Soccer Game with my HG10. :o)

Fine lighting and camerawork, and very good clarity. Nice colors as well - was the Magic Bullet look very different from the raw footage?
  • [ PIXEL VIKING ] plus 5 months ago
I record in neutral mode on my HG10, so the colors look very pale in the original footage and there is little contrast.

I added contrast and a color filter along with diffusion (for a dreamy look) and a grad exposure (to brighten the ground and not the sky.

I've added some before and after screen dumps on the right.
  • [ PIXEL VIKING ] plus 5 months ago
'Pale' footage with low saturation and low contrast is easier to colorgrade.

Hi Pixel Viking, beautiful film as always. Makes me want to visit Denmark :)

I have a question about the 503HDV head you're using, I hope you're willing to answer. I'm considering buying this head for my (soon to arrive) 7D, but I've read that it suffers from driftback at the end of pans/tilts.

I notice you haven't included any pan/tilt stops in your montage, is the driftback the reason for this? I would love to hear your experience on this matter.

Anyways, keep up the good work!
  • [ PIXEL VIKING ] plus 3 months ago
    Hi

I haven't noticed any driftback with my 503HDV head.

A 503HDV seems like overkill for a 7D unless you want to use very large lenses.
  • Richard Wilis 3 months ago
    Thanks for your reply.

My mistake, it's the 501HDV I'm considering. Nonetheless good to hear you haven't noticed any driftback with the 503.
  • [ PIXEL VIKING ] plus 3 months ago
I would consider the 501HDV overkill too :) but that's your call of course.

Consider the half bowl system for very fast and easy leveling. I enjoy my setup a lot and I'm sure you'll like the 501 as well...
  •
  • Richard Wilis 3 months ago
Well, I want a stable platform for my 100-300mm. I'd rather have a little overkill than underkill :)

But perhaps you're right. I'll give it a try at a local store first.

    Take care.
