‘Avaritia’ is the new short film from the acclaimed director, Walid Salhab. His 2012 Cannes award-winning short film ‘Bra-et Al Rouh’ went on to win many awards worldwide.
‘Avaritia’ tells the story of a man trapped in a world of his own making and choosing. Obsessed by money, he has been corrupted by the banking institutions he works for. He is alone and continually searching for a companion to join him. When he sees a chance to possess a woman and make her his own things start to go awry.
Walid wrote and directed ‘Avaritia’ without any funding. Instead, he relies upon his partners, Robert Welsh and Ros Campbell for help and support. Robert acts and produces; Ros handles production and film publicity. The trio believe that ‘Avaritia’s’ message is reflected in their attitude towards how they produce films, in that they want to show that huge budgets are not always the key to success.
Walid lectures in Media Practice at Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh where his research into new film techniques has already resulted in the one million hit YouTube sensation, “Kinetic Edinburgh II”.
Beautiful shots and Walid’s pioneering new stop-motion technique draw the viewer into the surreal world of ‘Avaritia’.
