At 11:00 am, Sunday, December 30, 2012, over 100 local residents, primarily Haisla, gathered outside the City Centre Mall in Kitimat to join in the gathering Idle No More protests. After opening speeches and drumming songs the crowd moved out to demonstrate their commitment by blocking the main intersection in Kitimat.
For just under ten minutes they drummed sand and danced, holding hands, while drivers waited patiently showing their own support and approval. They then returned to and entered the Mall to perform another song and offer the opportunity for others to speak.
The Haisla Nation are the Indian peoples most likely to be impacted by the proposed industrial developments and the policies being forwarded by the government of Stephen Harper.
