Every year, Amchis " Tibetan Doctors" from "Ladakh Society for Traditional Medicines", travel to the most remote areas in ladakh to educate the youth for to become amchis themselves. This video is representative of such journey into the wilderness of the harsh and difficult landscape of the Himalayas.
Students are selected among the most needed villages and get 4 years of an intensive diploma course in Leh the capital city of the state of Ladakh in Jammu & Kashmir, India. The graduated amchis then return back to their communities to provide essential public health care. They then especially specialize on women and child health care and provide awareness raising health campaigns and medicine to the public throughout the year.
Unfortunately the amchi youth has to continue farming in most of the time as there is no income provided for amchis in the villages, this is the highest example of a pure community and social work.
