Stand up paddling, SUP solo 8 miles on West Side, New Years Day, 2013. Seeking a different kind of adventure and solitude.

This was an unexpected paddle as I attempted to catch some of the left over big N swell which got blown out, so I headed West.

I'm paddling the Naish 14ft Glide and using the Kaholo 8.5 full carbon, adjustable paddle, reduced diameter.

The waters were so blue and clear. As I as driving I spotted whales along the coast. Nursing a bad man-o-war sting from the day before, I was ready to see whales and hope for a close encounter.

Well, the whales were miles out but a special little turtle kept me company as I explored. It seemed to really like my board, but I don't know if they see color. Either way it was a great way to ring in the New Year.

This video is dedicated to a special young lady in New Hampshire named Joani.

Aloha and in good health, Suzie Cooney
