I think it looks amazing. The colour, the focus, the look of the actress...

    The flickering is on purpose?

Hey Luke- I like. Have an HPX and am thinking about an MX.2. Which element do you use with the HPX, the CXFL? Did you have any issues with the combo?
  • Luke Pygman 4 months ago
Hey thanks for the comment Craig! I actually used the ground glass that comes standard with the MP.2, which is the CF1Le (I think). I would have liked to get the CXFL, but it wasn't really in the budget - I would like to upgrade at some point though! The HPX and the Brevis are a winning combo though, especially since the HPX has an option to flip the image in the LCD screen (so you won't need the flip element on the Brevis unless you'd just prefer it). Haven't had any problems with it and I highly recommend any Cinevate product!

  • Great look! I have an HPX170 and recently invested in a Letus but haven't a chance to test drive it... Is their anyway I could talk to you about Color a bit through email?

I recently experimented a bit with the video posted here:

    vimeo.com/5570919

But haven't felt I have gotten as good a result with people. Are there certain "standards" that should be applied when using Color with people?

    Again... great look!
  • Luke Pygman 4 months ago
I appreciate the comment Brett! Thanks so much! While I don't at all claim to be any sort of expert in Color or grading, feel free to PM me or email me at lukepygman at gmail dot com! As far as "standards" for faces or people, I think that every situation is different and it will be very rare that you will use the same grade twice without tweaking it... I think the majority of the process in developing a "look" is experimentation. I played with the color curves, saturation curves, secondaries, and everything else for a long time before I decided I was happy. And there's no right answer to color grading, or design, editing, and cinematography, for that matter! I would highly suggest going to coloruser.net and downloading some preset grades - not as an easy way out, but as a starting point for experimenting and seeing how others are using curves! It's pretty easy to start doing more complex grading once you get the hang of it!

Really great info Jamie! I definitely went overboard in my demo reel with the extreme looks, though that's when I was first learning how to grade. Expect a new upload of the reel soon! Thanks for watching Jamie, I really appreciate comments and love discussing these things!

    Nice portrait, it's so smooth!
The style and colors reminds me a little "Le Fabuleux Destin D'Amelie Poulain" :)

Wow, thanks so much! Amelie is actually one of my two favorite movies, so that's actually a huge compliment :)

Very nice. Lovely shot, lovely girl, lovely choice of song.......

She holds that gaze as if she has something to tell you, but she's not quite ready.........for some reason it reminds me of Dawson's Creek. But thats a good thing.
