Currently I'm unsure about what habitual sin clearly identifies someone as unsaved. I mean, if a hitman continues murdering people after making a confession of faith, it's clearly an indication that that profession of faith was not accompanied by the Holy Spirit doing a work of true conversion in their life. But what about things like smoking, drinking, pornography addiction... I mean, we turn to Christ despite those things and He works on us to get them out of our lives. I think it would be helpful if there was a more detailed distinguishment betweens a love of sin that is holding people back from turning to Christ and becoming adopted into God's family, and a love of sin that is causing us to be disobedient children. I don't watch pornography or masturbate, but I'm still prideful, and dishonour my parents, and do not pray as much as I ought to, and have evil thoughts, and am not as loving to others as I ought to be, etc... I don't want to be that way ultimately, but routinely that's the way I am... So, a question that someone might ask after hearing preaching such as this is, "Is my current difficulty in giving up those sinful attitudes and behaviours compromising my salvation? How much work do I need to do to be saved?" Yes, repentance ought to be preached, but please consider addressing the issue thoroughly with concern for those who genuinely despair at how sinful they are, even if they don't view pornography, use filthy language, get drunk, do drugs, etc. I did all of those things when I turned to Christ and continued to do them until recently, but I can't say that I wasn't really saved, because by God's grace He helped me to be convicted, and to grow in maturity, and to be chastised.
