The Roman Catholic Church in China is called Tianzhu jiao (天主教), which literally means "the religion of God in Heaven" and has a long and complex history.
Today the majority of Catholics live in province of Yunnan, which is also the province with the majority of minorities and as such is much more open and tolerant to different influences than other Chinese provinces. The Christians come from the majority of Han people, but also from the surrounding minorities such as Yi, Lisu and Miao.
At Christmas time everybody celebrates, Christians and non-Christians, each in their own way. In Churches the celebration occurs with traditional Masses and other events, bars and shops are decorated, and a big part of the tradition has also become a massive street frenzy with artificial snow spraying.
