I had a chance to participate in a project to find the premigratory roosts of Purple Martins by attaching small radio transmitters on birds in a colony I work with. Birds from several colonies will receive transmitters and then will be followed with tracking receivers. The transmitter life span is approximately 3 months. The transmitters will then fall off when the birds molt next winter.
