Harm Evert Waalkens is the son of Boer Waalkens. Boer (Albert) Waalkens established a gallery on his farm in remote Finsterwolde in the early 1960's. He became well-known in the international art-world because of his avantgarde policy which, as his son explains, had no other basis than his personal taste. Bas Jan Ader participated in an exhibition that also contained works by Gilbert & George, Ger van Elk and Jan Dibbets.
Recently the granddaughter of Albert Waalkens (and daughter of Harm Evert) has bought the farm with her husband. They re-established the gallery and hope to regain its name and fame.
