Special thanks to Armando Zanecchia and his students of Franklin College for their continued support to this project.
Vision: The founders envisioned an educational conference center at Freedom Gardens, and as a first step, we are raising funds for a classroom that would accommodate up to 30 people. The classroom would rely on local labor and materials and help support the women’s group that manages the farm’s visitors. The classroom would be an integral part of a hands-on educational program for local children and foreign students. About:
Established in 1982 by Dr. Glyvyns and Christine Chinkhuntha, Tikondwe Freedom Gardens is an organic, sustainable farm that has successfully enhanced food security in rural Malawi. From a small plot, the farm has expanded to help lift the surrounding area out of poverty. It now employs over one hundred workers annually.
As a demonstration project, Freedom Gardens has instructed local farmers and schoolchildren, as well as students and educators from the University of Malawi, Franklin College Switzerland, and Virginia Tech.
