It seems as though much of my work can be rooted to a line I came up with standing on the Széchenyi Chain Bridge in Budapest one night: "Imagine we are old now, with no need to wonder." Uncertainty about the future bears great influence on my sense of self and creative work, something I hope to harness in a productive, positive manner.
The truth is, I used to think I was obsessed with death. In actuality, I'm obsessed with life. Death is just an inescapable part of the whole thing, I suppose.
That being said, I want to keep positive. It's easy to become distracted from what's most important in as busy a world as ours. My hope is to send out a little reminder here and there, something sincere and with substance that shouts out "god damn, it feels good to be alive."
Because, well, it is.
A MODERN SENTIMENT
The song featured here is called "Outro" and it's by a fantastic group from Clermont-Ferrand, France called The Delano Orchestra. Check out their stuff here: thedelanoorchestra.bandcamp.com/. They also have a new album coming out soon.
For those curious, the footage was shot: on a ferry from France to England, on a rooftop in Bushwick, and in my old kitchen in Bed-Stuy.
