31. SHUGO TOKUMARU in series Ears to the Ground
5 months ago
On his first U.S. tour, Tokyo’s Shugo Tokumaru stunned crowds with his delicate and catchy tech-pop. Backed by members of Beirut, Stars Like Fleas, Bang On A Can, and The National – this young songwriter plays beautiful pop that still manages to keep the most seasoned musicians on their toes.

wow - i really like your vids and the artists, always something special!! :))
(this vid plays a little bit jerky, what frame rate do you use for your vimeo stream?)
  • Dig For Fire plus 4 months ago
    hey olaf,

glad you liked it! i'm not sure whats up with the jerkiness . . . . it only does that on vimeo, but when i play the file on my computer that i uploaded for them it plays fine. its the same compressor profile we use for all of our vids . . .
  • olaf h. ☞ nadu 4 months ago
...yup, try to render it as 24fps (23,97 or 25fps also works fine) for the online streams, plays back much smoother, it´s the same with youtube.
  • Dig For Fire plus 4 months ago
yeah, its def 24fps . . . i think the file may have gotten swine flu.
  • olaf h. ☞ nadu 4 months ago
    hehehe, yeah, that´s quite possible.
anyway, the vid is alive and looks good! ;))

Hey, your productions are currently my favourite bedtime candy!! Great artists, as always, very nice documentary, interesting imagery, dense atmosphere. Only the audio unfortunately is a little poor this time. But it doesn't really matter, because this is again an amazing source of inspriation, that without any sensible reason gives me hope for a better world.

thanks roman! I'm so glad you like our stuff :) are you referring to the mic noise? yes, that bothers me as well. anyway, thank you so much for your very kind words!

@Dig: I have just realized it seems to be a global problem of your productions. The dialog/set sound sounds like you've tried to denoise it with a poor method. So in the end it is lacking presence, spatial quality and thus speech is difficult to understand even when you crank it up all the way. If you want amazing live sound for music, I suggest buying a Zoom H4N plus a pair of Rode NT5. Together with the onboard mics of the H4N (room signal) you can simultaneously record 4 tracks in 24/48 (!) - sounds perfect, portable, affordable. Cam sound is almost always poor. For speech get at least a Rode NTG2/3 and plug it into the H4N. Cheers!!! Roman
