This video tells the idea behind Amazing Maths which is a collaboration between IndexMatch, Cauldron, Wolfram Research, David Vacarro (Maths Teacher &Royal Institution Computing Summer School) and Dr Anson Cheung (Maths Teacher &The Senior Physics Challenge & Trustee of the British Physics Olympiad).
Amazing Maths is a collaborative online learning experience that inspires secondary school students to develop advanced and highly transferable maths and programming skills via fun collaborative games and simulations. The focus is on open-ended investigation and modelling of interesting problems, for instance; optimising roller-coaster design, by considering the third derivative of position, or redesigning the UK tax and benefit system to pass the ‘veil of ignorance’ test. As all the content is online, the site has the potential to reach thousands of users, and have a long lasting legacy.
The content will be delivered via a specially adapted version of the IndexMatch platform, where users progress through a tree-like structure of courses, following the main route or branching off into subjects that interest them. Individual technical skills will be developed using structured video tuition and exercises. Collaboration on open-ended projects will be facilitated via curated forums.
