This is my first work as a cinematographer.
This is part 1/3. The following parts are uploaded.
From 1994 to 1997, II was living and working in Taipei (Taiwan) for film industry. I was a still photographer first, but as I learned pretty quickly what was going on, I moved up closer to directors and started to advised them on the placemnt of the camera to get better angle to tell their stories. My best friend, Leon Dai (Dai Li Ren) appreciated my vision and my long experience iin shooting motorsport.
This fact, plus the lack of enough budget to get someone more experienced in film making, made him decide to hire me as his main cameraman and DP for his first movie in 2000.
We shoot this 40 minutes story in 1 month (30 days shoot). All budget was dedicated to the transfert to 35mm film as we shot everytthing in Digi Beta. The film was presented to the International Taipei Horse festival and got the first price of "Best first movie". It competed in other countries, , but as I was living in Japan at that time and was too busy to check feedback from it. There was 2 others cameramen helping on the project. I forgot their name, but one came 2 days to shoot the slow motion with a 16mm cam, and another guy was sometime there to shoot some B-roll. I did 90% of the work on this film and was quit happy to see how logical it was for me to translate words(in chinese!) form the script into images.
