When you record sound separately with the 5d you need to sync it with the video in post. Normally you do it manually with a clapperboard and match the audio spikes.

With Final Cut Pro and plug in pluraleyes from singularsoftware.com you don't have to do it manually anymore. it's all automated and saves you a stack of time.

Singular didn't ask me to make this, I just had such a great experience with this software that I wanted to share it with you.

Enjoy!

    Great tutorial Philip, great plug-in.

Does it have any difficulty with louder background audio or 2 voices?

Great tutorial, thanks for all you do for us newbies. Btw, can I ask what adapter you are using to mount the Zeiss Primes on the 5D Mark ii. I have 4 Zeiss primes I got from Zacuto for my Letus Elite and would love to use them on the Canon 5D.

    hi Nick

I use a cheap one off ebay but am not happy with it so can't recommend a specific one as such. the cheap one works, it's just a bit loose. I am looking for a good one so keep in touch.

What do you think about this one?

    fotodiox.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=28

It is a Nikon F lens adapter, it should fit the Zeiss Nikon mount primes, what do you think?

It is not a cheap option, but I think you get what you pay for.

dear philip , the audio that i mean is the one recorded in the 5d in 30fps , not the zoom device ,
after converting the video to 24, the audio line will be stretched ,
    so what to do ?

    Philip,
Thank you for the tutorial and the great info. We did our first project with the 5DMK2 recently and needed to convert all of the source files to Pro Res in order to edit in FCP6. We are considering purchasing the 7D and FCP 7 and wondering if FCP7 can handle the files natively without stuttering or slow performance. Do you know if anyone has experience with files from the 7D in the new FCP? We are running it on modern Macintel boxes..
  • Philip Bloom pro 2 years ago
    natively no good am afraid.

I just bought the 7d and I'm anxiously awaiting your new tutorial, but I have a question that you might not cover in the tutorial. I'm going to be shooting a music video soon with the 7d and I'm not sure how to do the slow motion effect and still keep the lips in sync. Can you please help a brother out?
  • Rich Danby 2 years ago
James, you'll want to play the audio to the band/artist sped up as much as you want to slow down the footage - and hope that they can mime at that speed.

E.g slowing 60fps to 24fps you would want them to sing 2.5 times faster than normal while you shoot.

What about sync NTSC and PAL? Did you try to do it?

Sweet. To capture the voice of the speaker, where do you usually place the Zoom H4n when you are shooting? I don't always know where I should put my zoom to get the best audio of the scene. Do you use a boom?

    Hi Philip!
    pluraleyes works only with fcp?
  •
  • Alex Bluffield 1 year ago
Nice tutorial Phillip. Instead of exporting the synced audio & reimporting I use Modify>Link (CMD + L) to link it to the video and then drag it from the timeline to a bin called 'Synced'. Possibly quicker than exporting out as quicktimes.

Mr bloom i used the shots from my t2i and imported it without converting to prores or aic and it worked no problem ...but had to render the sequence it took 20 min for 3min of footage ....when i convert the footage 1st then import it into fcp7 pluraleyes shows a error " media files"

Great video. Is it possible to use Pluraleyes to sync audio with a scene that is already cut together?
