During Audio Workshop when we were asked to tell a story, a narrative, I immediately thought that it should be enjoyable—my listeners should want to hear the next word and be ready to laugh. However, I want to tell the stories that are not told everyday. Depression and the world of mental illness are carefully covered in a shroud that we are not meant to touch. Society is meant to tiptoe around their manic reactions and hope for “recovery” or “health”. This is because no one really understands mental illness; the reality is that there is no recovery, but there is learning to live with it and understand it. Hopefully this piece illustrates more clearly what it is like to live with depression and cope with it.
