Appropriated footage 2012.
"In a country founded upon the idea of Capitalism, the only way to be truly patriotic, to truly show love and appreciation for one’s country is to spend money on and consume its products without ceasing. In Stained Glass #2: Consumption, I use footage appropriated from commercials to create a reverent monument directed at the United States’ worship of the Capitalist system, just as stained glass windows can be a monument to an important religious event, person, or idea. The use of this appropriated footage subverts the intended purpose of the original footage; works of art that was originally created to persuade viewers to purchase a product. Viewed as a silent loop, those works are transformed into something more meditative and relatable."
