This work, by Olivier Gourmel, illustrates how the composition of implicit surfaces using union, intersection, difference, blending and bulge-in-contact can be done in an effective manner by avoiding standard artefacts (blend at distance, unwanted bulge, etc). This theoretical research work has been published in Transactions on Graphics 2013 (32(2)).
