We need them but we may not have enough money to keep them safe in a few years.
That's the warning from state highway officials and from a blue ribbon commission on transportation that looked into the condition of our roads and bridges. The conclusion: we need to find a way to pay for more maintenance and future growth of our highway system.
That could include new or higher taxes: something that is not an easy sell in the Show Me State.
Former Speaker of the House Rod Jetton, who co-chaired the commission, and MoDOT engineer Ed Hassinger are this weeks guests.
