The equivalent Flickr entry for this video: flickr.com/photos/smpb/3767298582/
My second attempt at a time-lapse video of a night's sky.
The diagonal streaks across the sky are airplanes crossing the field of view.
The horizontal streaks near the bottom of the frame are boats.
Near the end of the video you can clearly see the galactic center of the Milky Way entering the frame.
This is the composite of 229 exposures taken at near Guincho - Cascais - over the span of four hours (10:41pm of July 25th, 2009, to 02:29am of the following day).
Each shot was taken with a 20 seconds interval in between each.
Manual settings for each shot:
40 sec. exposure at 17mm (27mm equiv.), f/4.5, ISO 800.
Soundtrack: Excerpt of Fragile, from the 'The Dark Symphony' album, by Roger Subirana ( jamendo.com/en/album/44337 ).
__________
With better results than my first attempt, this is a lot closer to what I had envisioned in the first place.
The glaring limitation at this point is power, as one battery is clearly not enough for such endeavor.
If I eventually acquire a grip for my 40D (effectively doubling its autonomy with two batteries), the hypothetical 8 hours of exposures will make for much more interesting results.
But for now, I am content.
