Set of 24 Crayola markers, wood, time-based media, photographic & hand-drawn flowers/plants digitally printed on bamboo sheeting, 32” x 32” // 2012

This time-based piece is a contemporary approach to exploring mark-making and traditional patterns and imagery in textiles (ex. Florals and polka dots.) A wooden base with holes for each marker holds a scarf “canvas” as the colored markers wick into their corresponding empty flower spots on the fabric. Over time, the missing flower reveals itself on its stem, similar to the gradual blooming of a flower in real life. After about 5 hours, the markers wicked out to a desired point and the cloth was removed from the canvas frame to be later turned into a scarf.
