Auction Theory and Mechanism Design

Unlike traditional advertising, much of the advertising on the internet is sold via auctions. With millions of dollars at stake and billions of auctions run every day (each taking less than the blink of an eye), the rules of the auction (who pays whom when and how much) are integral to a healthy marketplace. In this talk I will give an overview of algorithmic game theory and mechanism design with a specific focus on ad auctions and how they have evolved in the past 10 years.
