The Complaints Choir is an international network of public performances that involve communities singing their complaints—personal or political—in the format of a rehearsed choir with original music. Founded in 2005 by Finnish artists Tellervo Kalleinen and Oliver Kochta-Kaleninen, the project is a literal and positive actualization of the Finnish expression ‘Valituskuoro’ or complaints choir. The first choir took place in Birmingham, England and has since been replicated internationally in dozens of cities including Tokyo, Rotterdam, Chicago, Jerusalem, and Melbourne among many others.
