In Throwing Three Camera's in the Air to Get a Straight Shot (Best of Thirty-Six Attempts) Chiu makes a direct homage to John Baldessari's Throwing Three Balls in the Air to Get a Straight Line (Best of Thirty-Six Attempts) using the camera as the object thrown into the air. This 3-channel video installation places the viewer into Baldessari's "balls", creating a dizzying gesture floating time and time again into the sky. At moments, the camera's fall into Chiu's hand at precisely the same time, creating the illusion of order, if only temporarily. Technology provides Chiu with an opportunity to utilize the camera in a way not so easily done a few decades prior, using the camera itself as a physical gesture, integrating the camera body into the performance.
