    Nice tutorial, thanks a lot. Could you, please, let me know how to customize Terminal as you did? I mean, colors, the path after the user (colored as well…) etc.? Thanks again.

    Hi Giuseppe - glad you found it helpful! To customize the terminal prompt you have to modify the PS1 setting in your bashrc file: cyberciti.biz/tips/howto-linux-unix-bash-shell-setup-prompt.html. In order to get version control information included in the prompt I use a tool called vcprompt: cyberciti.biz/tips/howto-linux-unix-bash-shell-setup-prompt.html.

    My PS1 setting in my bashrc file looks like this:
    export PS1='\[\e[0;35m\]\u\[\e[0;33m\] \w\[\e[0;36m\]$(vcprompt -f " [%n:%b]")\[\e[00m\]: '
