"What you do for a living is not be creative, what you do is ship," says bestselling author Seth Godin, arguing that we must quiet our fearful "lizard brains" to avoid sabotaging projects just before we finally finish them.

I'm trying to finish off two chapters of a book I'm writing. This is the best procrastination tool I could wish for! I think I'd better go and change my life now.

Excellent, I Have known about this self sabotage mechanism for some time but this is a helpful reminder visualised by the Lizard brain. Seth is great!

Loved this speech. I've always had a fascination with self-sabotage...

The idea that if you don't really try, and I mean really put 100% of yourself into something, that when it fails... it's easier to say, "well, it didn't work because I had *this* going on".

If we give something everything we have... and we fail, then it's a real blow to our self-image and self-worth. There are so many opportunities in the process of creating something to chip away at your own effort... so if it doesn't work, then you can say you never really tried.

    Very inspiring stuff.

I'm obliged to note that "ontogeny recapitulates phylogeny" is a discredited biological hypothesis, though a potentially useful metaphor.

The following article does an excellent job of presenting the Triune Brain theory referenced by Seth and also makes interesting suggestions about it's evolutionary implications:
Paul MacLean 'Brain Evolution Relating to Family, Play, and the Separation Call' Arch. Gen. Psychiatry 42: 405-417, 1985.

This is an excellent talk, minus the blurb about humans evolving from a chicken. Wasn't sure if he was serious about that portion of the talk or if it was just a metaphor. The bird-dinosaur theory is highly criticized by evolutionary biologists. And Darwin's theory has many, many holes (see the Cambrian explosion). In fact, evolutionary biologists offer no real explanation for bird origins. I would argue that we're all similar because we all come from one source, one creator. Good talk though, I likes.

Seth, I needed that, thanks! I've left too many great ideas on the road side because I caught up in the idea and forgot to ship. The big one I acted on and was UBER successful with was mypetfat. Why? Because I "shipped" it! In fact I've shipped over 3 tons of it to 15 countries. But I have a dozen other even bigger mypetfat ideas that I've never shipped. But... after a good thrashing on each one that's on the shelf, I have a feeling that I'm going to start doing some new shipping... Thanks
