That is one of the most amazing videos I've seen. Instead of just watching a clip, I felt like I was taken on a journey - sort of like when you're on a theme park ride and for a few minutes you are in another world. Great great stuff. Great animation, great story. Kudos!

Pretty insane man - my friend had this to say when he viewed it:

"I'm gonna throw up this is too good"

I love it when I can induce vomit. Now if I can just get someone to crap their pants.
  • Laurel Randolph 2 years ago
I almost crapped my pants that was so good.

Awesome job, I'll be watching this one over and over and over.. magical.

I love this Gabe, thanks for sharing! My favorite part is when they are rotating through space, or maybe the arrows, or maybe the farmer on the tractor, or when...damn, I can't choose.

while the entire video was amazing... the part that got me was the use of space in the highway diorama! and the light-brite esque stars made my night!

Beautiful; interesting visual concepts and clean execution. I love that style of simulated mechanical animation. Reminded me of another favourite, Super Furry Animals' 'It's not the End of the World':

I also registered for Vimeo... to comment on how very average this work is. It looks like you spent hardly any time on this at all ; )

But seriously, very very nice work mate.
How come this isn't an 'official' music video of some sort...? for another band/track or something?
It's well-up-there in terms of quality and execution, it seems a small shame that its only a "fan video" (not that I'm saying there is anything particularly wrong with that). But anyways. Keep up the good work mate!!
  • Gabe Askew plus 2 years ago
Thanks Matt. I think in this day and age fan videos are blurring the line between paid and non-paid work. I've been inspired by guys like Aubo Lessi (parkink.net) who do amazing work only because they love to do it.

Beautiful and very inspiring!...Are all the elements digital or some by hand?...I'm very impressed!!!
  • Gabe Askew plus 2 years ago

wow, you work just around the corner from me.. Great video man! What can I say that hasn't be said in these 200 comments.... OK here it goes... I just rented a condo so that I can have the electricity to plug a computer that I just bought so that I can come go to the web and join Vimeo so that I can comment on your video... Was this said yet? No? Nice!!!

Crazy Magnificent. it wrenches me into some otherworld of space and tempo where yet everything is somehow flat and everyone is two-dimensional - but the pictoral narrative flows with the music as the jagged story leaps from one inexplicable moment to the unforeseen next ... just like life itself.

Thank you. do it again, please.
  • Gabe Askew plus 2 years ago
Do it again? You got it. Just don't expect it soon :)

beautiful and moving...well done! like it better than their *real* video for the song.
  •
  • Amazing work Gabe! All your hard work paid off in this piece. May I ask what collaboration of programs you used?
  • Gabe Askew plus 2 years ago
I mainly used 3ds Max, Vray, and After Effects. I painted all the textures in Photoshop. I even managed a little Realflow flavor in there.
  •

I think this video is fantastic for so many reasons, but I love that your central characters are gay and yet treated so normally. My favorite sequence in the whole film is probably 2:30-3:00 where you have the two lovers connected at the heart, floating as one through space. The music and visuals made me tear up. Thank you for creating such a beautiful piece.
  • Gabe Askew plus 2 years ago
Thanks. Even though the song involves two guys, I really tried to connect their relationship to the relationship with my wife. The theme of fighting to keep a relationship together is universal.
